iPhone Duo in Canada: Price, Release Date and Is Apple’s Foldable iPhone Worth It?

The iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, is now on sale in Canada. It starts at $2,999 before tax, tops out at $4,799 for 2TB, and the most expensive model costs more than $5,000 once tax is added. Canada got it on October 23, a full week before most of the world. Here is what the new iPhone does, what it costs in each province, and whether it is worth it.

What is the iPhone Duo?

The iPhone Duo is a book-style folding iPhone. Closed, it is a compact phone with a 5.4-inch outer screen. Open it, and you get a 7.6-inch inner display, which Apple says is 50% bigger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Both screens have ProMotion, Always On and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor brightness, so you can read them in full sun. Apple CEO John Ternus called it “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original.”

The trick is the hinge. Apple says it uses more than 100 parts and supports the middle of the display when it is open, so the crease stays out of the way. The frame is grade 5 titanium, the phone is rated IP68 for water and dust, and Apple calls it the thinnest iPhone ever when unfolded.

Why the iPhone costs more in Canada

In the U.S., the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 USD, which CBC worked out to about $2,760 Canadian. That means Canadians pay roughly 9% more for the base model. Tariffs are not the reason. One economist suggested Apple is simply charging what buyers of ultra-premium gadgets in Canada are willing to pay, while tech analysts point to the cost of the custom hinge and two high-end screens.

Specs: what you get for the money

The iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27.1 and Apple Intelligence, including the new Siri AI beta. A lot of that AI runs in the cloud, which is why the AI data center boom in Canada matters even to people who only care about their phone. If you follow that side of tech, here is the latest AI news from October 2026.

Can you actually buy one?

Not easily. Canadian pre-orders opened on October 16 at 8 a.m. Eastern, and within hours Apple’s online store was showing delivery dates in late January to February 2027. Apple also capped orders at two per customer, and said walk-in stock at its stores on launch day would be limited. If you want one before the holidays, your best bet is to check the Apple Store app for in-store pickup early in the morning, when new stock appears, or ask your carrier.

Is the iPhone Duo worth it?

For most people, no. A regular iPhone 18 Pro does nearly everything the Duo does for a lot less, and first-generation foldables have a history of early problems. But if you read, edit photos or run two apps side by side on your phone all day, a 7.6-inch iPhone that folds into your pocket is a real upgrade, and Apple’s hinge looks like the best anyone has built.

And if you are looking at $5,000 for a phone, you are already thinking like an investor, so it is worth knowing which AI data center stocks are riding the same wave. For context, $5,000 also buys a fair amount of gold, which is why the photo above puts the two side by side. Apple fans will joke it is still cheaper than a quantum entangled cellphone.
