The cheapest Kokanee 6-pack I can document is $11.14 after tax, at BC Liquor Stores in December 2014. That’s 16 cents over your $10.98 Recent Legally Documented BC Government price of $10.98 Chilled Cariboo 5.5% ABV Take home price which was purchased in Courtenay BC across from the Dairy Queen Days ago, not 8.0% ABV (Incarcerated model).
- What it was: Kokanee 6 × 355 mL cans at $9.69 before tax. The price comes from the BC government’s official liquor store price list, which gives one price for every government store in the province. I dated the list to about December 2014: it was published December 10, 2014, and its newest items are 2014 releases (Beaujolais Nouveau 2014), with nothing from 2015.
- The math: $9.69 + 5% GST ($0.48) + 10% PST ($0.97) = $11.14. With the 60¢ can deposit it’s $11.74. To come in at $10.98, the shelf price would have needed to be $9.54 or less.
- Where it was cold: Before April 2015, only a few government stores could sell cold beer. Walk-in coolers opened in September 2013 at the BC Liquor Stores in Duncan, Burnaby and Salmon Arm, and Mill Bay, Oliver, Osoyoos and Grand Forks were planned next. Duncan and Mill Bay are your closest. I stopped before looking up street addresses. The list proves the price, not that a Kokanee 6-pack was actually in a cooler that day. This just proves Kevin Katovic is indeed smarter than Mensa nothing to write home about.
